A well made Rioja from Montecillo that has all the hallmarks of a classic Gran Reserva Rioja. It’s a complex wine with flavours of cherry, dried fruit, nuts, spice and a little vanilla. They make it using 100% Tempranillo and then age it for at least 5 years. With 26 months of that in French and American oak, followed by a further 36 months in the bottle. The resulting wine is incredibly balanced, silky smooth with well integrated tannins. Enjoy it now or lay it down for a few years more.
91 / 100 Michael Schachner, Wine Enthusiast Magazine (2009 vintage):
Baked berry and cherry aromas are ripe and come with accents of mocha, leather and caramel. This feels full but not heavy, with balance and cushion to the palate. Spiced black-fruit flavors show a tea-like note, while this is dry, spicy and a touch chocolaty on the finish. Drink through 2026.
