French Vegan Wine

Welcome to our selection of French vegan wine. France needs no introduction in terms of its wine making credentials and such a brief overview as this couldn’t possibly do it justice. The main grapes of France are Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Syrah, Grenache and Cabernet Sauvignon. Wines in France tend to be named after the region rather than specifying the grape and the region indicates the grape used. Some commons regions and their corresponding grapes are:

  • Loire Valley: White – Sauvignon Blanc
  • Bordeaux: White = Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon; Red = Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot
  • Burgundy: White = Chardonnay; Red = Pinot Noir
  • Beaujolais: Red = Gamay
  • Rhone: Red = Syrah and Grenache

As France is a country full of tradition, a lot of the wine is not vegan friendly (or even vegetarian). However, with the increase in natural wine and some less traditional wine makers, there is still a lot of French vegan wine available.
